Newcastle could sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool and then try and sign £85m Reds target

The next couple of weeks look likely to be busy for Liverpool as they finalise their movements in the transfer window.

The Reds have so far stayed out of the market completely, but finally look ready to move ahead with some business.

Part of that rush could be to secure the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. Gordon has been linked relentlessly with Liverpool over the past six weeks.

Initially, any move looked likely to be solely linked with Newcastle’s PSR troubles at the end of June. However, Liverpool’s interest in Gordon has remained after that deadline passed.

For the Magpies, the shutting of the window perhaps can’t come soon enough, but it seems as though they could still have some benefit to selling one of their best players to Liverpool.

Newcastle could push for Mohammed Kudus

As well as Gordon, it has been claimed that Liverpool could push for three more signings this summer.

That would reportedly include deals for a new centre-back, a defensive midfielder and – surprisingly – yet another wide forward.

With five attackers in the Liverpool squad already, it would be a shock if Arne Slot felt he needed Gordon and one more to add to the mix. Nevertheless, according to some reports, that’s what the Dutchman wants.

If that were to happen, you’d imagine the Reds would need a right-sided player. And there have been claims that Liverpool want Mohammed Kudus of West Ham to be that man.

According to The i, though, Newcastle could actually ‘renew interest’ in Kudus if they sell Gordon to Liverpool for big money.

It should be noted that the paper put the chances of this happening as ‘unlikely’ for the time being. However, they do claim that there is still a ‘measure of uncertainty’ surrounding Gordon.

Liverpool’s interest in the 23-year-old is said to be still there, and the Reds reportedly believe that Gordon still wants to join them, too. But Newcastle are said to be clear that the transfer won’t happen.

Having said that, it’s claimed that if the Scouser rejects his team’s advances of a new contract, the Magpies will ‘have a decision to make.’ Choose to sell, and they could potentially come in for Kudus.

Anthony Gordon future still uncertain

We think that all the signs point towards Gordon joining Liverpool in 2025. There just doesn’t seem enough time and wiggle room to make the transfer happen this summer.

Despite that, if Newcastle feel they could bring in a player of Kudus’ quality on the back of selling their No.10, then perhaps there is still a glimmer of hope.

Jamie Carragher has backed Gordon to be a hit at Liverpool and it would clearly be a signing that would delight the fans.

As long as there are reports that the deal may go through – and as long as Gordon does not commit to Newcastle – anticipation will continue to grow.

Kudus has an £85m release clause and would be a similarly exciting addition for Liverpool. But if it were a choice between the Ghanaian or Gordon, the Scouser wins every time.
