Don Hutchison says there’s a ‘brilliant young player’ in the Premier League who Liverpool should sign

Liverpool’s transfer plans for the remainder of the summer window are starting to become clearer.

The Reds have stayed patient up until now and are still the only Premier League team yet to make a new signing.

There are good reasons for that. Arne Slot is new in the job and has wanted to get a good look at the players he has inherited, and the Liverpool squad is also plenty deep as it is.

Although some supporters may feel otherwise, Liverpool already have a group who should be able to challenge for all honours again next season.

Nevertheless, one or two tweaks would be very welcome indeed. And as Liverpool prepare to accelerate their transfer plans, they’ve now been told one player who could be a perfect addition.

Liverpool urged to sign Rayan Ait Nouri

According to an eye-opening report from The Independent on Friday, Liverpool are looking to sign up to four players this summer.

Along with key target Anthony Gordon, the Reds are also said to be looking at a new centre-back, a defensive midfielder and potentially another wide forward, too.

Nowhere on that list is there room for Liverpool to sign a left-back. Despite that, with rumours that Kostas Tsimikas could leave, the Reds have been linked with bolstering the left side of the defence.

The player most regularly named as being on top of their shortlist for that particular mission is Rayan Ait Nouri.

It was claimed more than two weeks ago that Liverpool would know if they were signing Ait Nouri by the time they played Real Betis last Saturday. With that date coming and going, it would suggest that they will not be buying the Wolves man.

According to former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison, that would be a mistake. Speaking on ESPN FC, Hutchison has claimed that Ait Nouri could be exactly what Slot needs.

“I will tell you who I would sign for Liverpool,” said the pundit. “I have been championing this for the last two years is Rayan Ait-Nouri, the left-back at Wolves.

“If Andy Robertson is struggling for injuries, he could compete for that left-back berth,” he added. “I think he’s a brilliant young player and I think that’s what they need. They have got good players across the back, but they need a little bit of cover.”

What’s happening at left-back for Liverpool?

With other areas to address this summer, it doesn’t feel as though left-back is a priority for Liverpool.

There were claims that Slot was wanting to try something different in the position this season, which could have meant a breakthrough for youngsters Owen Beck and Luke Chambers.

However, Chambers is going to Wigan on-loan, while Liverpool want to sell Beck. It may be that neither are around next season.

For all the rumours, Tsimikas is also still in the squad and it has all gone quiet on the Greek for a while.

With Robertson currently injured, Tsimikas has been playing – and playing relatively well – in pre-season. So, despite Don’s pleas, we think Robbo and Kostas will still be the two for the Reds this year.
