Liverpool are still yet to make their first signing since Arne Slot took over as head coach.
The Reds have, as usual, been linked with a phenomenal number of players to strengthen the team this summer.
However, with July soon to turn to August, Liverpool are yet to blink. As things stand, minus Adrian, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, the Liverpool squad will be the same one Jurgen Klopp left last season.
Of course, that isn’t completely true. There are one or two slight tweaks in terms of former loan players returning to Anfield for the new campaign.
One of these returnees – Sepp van den Berg – actually looks set to play a big part in what Liverpool ultimately decide to do in the market.

Arne Slot pushing for Marc Guehi transfer
With pre-season ramping up over the next couple of weeks, Slot needs to make a decision over whether Van den Berg will be in his squad next season.
If the Dutch coach does not see his compatriot as a genuine option, then Liverpool need to look to the transfer market.
With Van den Berg onboard, the Reds have enough numbers to cope with the new campaign. If not, someone else is likely to be needed.
And although Slot has been impressed with Van den Berg in pre-season, it has now been claimed that the head coach has given the green light for Liverpool to move on a defensive target.

According to the Daily Star, the Reds scouts were out in full force to watch England and Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi during Euro 2024.
Guehi had a fine tournament as the Three Lions made it all the way to the final, before losing to Spain. Centre-back partner John Stones was certainly impressed. Stones labelled Guehi as being ‘so good‘ in Germany.
And the Star claim that his excellence at the back for England has given way to concrete interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool.
From a Reds point of view, Slot is said to be the one driving the attempts to bring Guehi to Anfield. The 45-year-old reportedly ‘wants transfer talks to start immediately’ with the 24-year-old as he looks to replace the departed Matip.
Next two weeks crucial in Marc Guehi pursuit
For the time being, you can understand why Liverpool still haven’t made any moves in the transfer window.
Having only played one behind closed doors friendly, Slot still hasn’t got a proper look at what any of his Liverpool squad can really do.
This is especially relevant when it comes to whether the Reds feel like they need to do something at centre-back.
If Van den Berg can cut the mustard, then there’s simply no need for Liverpool to spend money on a replacement. Guehi would reportedly cost around £65m and if that can be saved, then it should be.
As a result, the next two weeks and Liverpool’s tour of the USA should give us a much better idea over whether a move for Guehi is likely. The Reds play three games in just over a week in America. More than enough time to make some final decisions.
