Liverpool made approach to sign £65m England Euro 2024 star in March

Liverpool have been laying down the foundations for their transfer window for the past few months.

There are a number of mitigating factors as to why the Reds are yet to do any business during the summer market so far.

Obviously, with Arne Slot new through the front door at Anfield, plans for what he’d like to do with his Liverpool squad are slightly up in the air.

Given that Liverpool also did not have a sporting director in place until recently, it’s been hard to get things sorted.

Nevertheless, FSG have the Reds set up in such a way that their targets are not on the whim of any one individual. The Liverpool transfer machine has still been whirring on in the background.

Liverpool made approach for Marc Guehi

Another reason behind the lack of activity at Anfield so far – and perhaps the biggest one – has been the summer international tournaments.

Liverpool have been linked with a fair few players at Euro 2024, players such as Baris Alper Yilmaz, for example, and may be waiting until the tournament ends to make any moves.

With just the final left to play on Sunday, that is now getting closer to being reality for the Reds.

One man who has been linked with Liverpool and who will be taking part in Sunday’s showpiece in Berlin is England centre-back Marc Guehi.

Guehi has been excellent for England, fuelling talk that he could leave Crystal Palace for a top side this summer.

And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old was subjected to an enquiry from Liverpool in March. However, at that time, Romano says the Reds did not follow up with concrete interest.

“Marc Guehi has been excellent for England during the Euros and many clubs have been scouting him this season, but at the moment nothing is concrete yet,” the journalist says in his Daily Briefing.

“For example, around March Liverpool asked about his situation but didn’t follow up with proposals or negotiations,” Romano adds.

“I can guarantee that as of today, it remains a calm situation to be discussed later in the window.”

Will Liverpool come back in for Marc Guehi?

Heading into the Euros, many fans perhaps weren’t sold on the idea of Liverpool signing Marc Guehi.

However, if they’ve been watching the former Chelsea youth team player closely over in Germany, those supporters should have changed their opinion.

You’ve got to be careful when judging players over a six or seven game spell, but Guehi really has been top tier for England.

Palace have reportedly set Guehi’s price-tag at around £65m this summer and he now looks to be justifying that kind of valuation.

From a Liverpool point of view, there is obvious interest there and they could be in for a centre-back. We’d suggest that once the Euros are over we might hear more about this one.
