Liverpool have been given some rough treatment by Real Madrid over recent years.

The Reds and Los Blancos are two of the biggest football clubs in Europe, and on the planet as a whole.

However, when the two have met lately, there has only really been one winner. Madrid have pipped Liverpool in two Champions League finals and knocked them out of the competition twice more besides.

The transfer market has also been dominated by victories for Real over the Reds. It really is about time there was a win for Liverpool to take back to Anfield.

But there are signals that the beatings are not quite over. With rumours that Trent Alexander-Arnold could join Real Madrid, Liverpool fans may be bracing themselves for the worst to come.

Alexis Mac Allister set to stay at Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future is really hanging by a thread. He’s now less than a year out from his contract ending.

It’s true that the academy starlet has always seemed more likely to stay with his boyhood club than eventually leave, though.

But the fact that it’s Madrid who are circling him will continue to make Reds fans nervous. Jude Bellingham is trying his best to persuade Alexander-Arnold to join him in Spain and that is a worry.

And Trent, as it turns out, is not the only member of the Liverpool squad who Real have their eye on snatching.

Earlier in the summer there were claims that Alexis Mac Allister was on Real Madrid’s shortlist to replace Toni Kroos.

Mac Allister had an excellent debut season with Liverpool, leading to claims that the Spanish giants had him in mind. However, Alexis emphatically denied the rumours and his father, Carlos Mac Allister, has now done the same.

“There are no negotiations on the part of Real Madrid with Alexis, and the player continues with Liverpool next season,” Mac Allister senior says via MSR.

However, Carlos did make a hint about ‘future offers’ for the Argentine, which does sound a little ominous.

“In the event of future offers to sign Alexis, we will discuss them with the Liverpool management first,” he says.

Liverpool must keep Alexis Mac Allister

There was never any real expectation that Mac Allister would be leaving Liverpool after just one season.

Nevertheless, despite his father’s words, it remains to be seen what would happen if Real Madrid put down a firm offer this summer.

For the time being, though, that does not sound especially likely to happen. We’ll be seeing Mac Allister back in red for a second season.

Beyond that, Liverpool have to whatever they can to ensure the No.10’s happiness at Anfield. Alexis is a special player who is only going to get better and better.

You can understand the attraction of Real Madrid for a Spanish speaker, but Liverpool have to show the World Cup winner that there’s no reason he needs to play his football anywhere else.
