Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may not be able to enjoy his break from management for too much longer.

After 23 years of virtually unbroken work, Klopp has been getting to grips with having a rare summer off.

It was evident that the German had completely run out of energy by the time his nine-year chapter at Liverpool came to a close. After an enthralling Anfield farewell, it was time to put his feet up.

However, barely two months have gone by and Klopp has already been offered another job. The USA national team finding out that Jurgen is serious about his break.

And now, less than another week on, the Liverpool legend is being tipped to be in the frame to take over from Gareth Southgate at England.

David Ornstein shares Jurgen Klopp England update

After England lost to Spain in the final of Euro 2024, there is a feeling that it’s the end of the road for Southgate.

Nothing official has yet been communicated, but it would be a surprise to see the former Middlesborough defender keep his job beyond this summer.

After going close to winning a first international trophy since 1966, Southgate will be a relatively tough act to follow. However, Klopp would be a huge step up.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Klopp is not the right man for England, though, with Carragher urging an English manager to take over instead.

And according to journalist David Ornstein, the chances of the FA tempting the former Reds boss out of his self-imposed exile are currently slim.

“First and foremost with Jurgen Klopp, he’s already rebuffed an approach from the USA to consider or talk to them about taking over their managerial vacancy ahead of the 2026 World Cup,” Ornstein tells Sky Sports.

“And his representatives have reiterated his desire, which he stated on leaving Liverpool, to take a break.

“So, I don’t think England will stand a great chance unless he’s going to break that plan in the near future.” he adds. “Of course maybe if there’s a chance of getting Klopp and they want to go for him and he wants it then maybe they would wait but I think that’s an important factor too.”

Jurgen Klopp set for season of job offers

We simply can’t see why Klopp would be keen on taking over at England so soon after leaving Liverpool.

In fact, we can’t say that we’d understand why the German would want to take over the Three Lions at all.

Yes, it’s a talented group of players, but Klopp needs to feel a connection with the fans and the people surrounding the team to do his best work.

England fans are largely made up of supporters of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals and lower league sides. A good portion of those people have spent the last decade strongly disliking Klopp and Liverpool and the 57-year-old is surely aware of that.

Once he has inevitably turned down any approach from England though, Jurgen – or at least his agent – is going to have to get used to his phone ringing. As soon as any top job comes up in the next year or so, you just know he’s getting a call.
