Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may just have made a big decision about his future after USA talks

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been in the news this week after being linked with a surprise new job.

Klopp has been enjoying some well deserved time off since the end of the season after finishing a hugely successful nine year stay with the Reds.

The 57-year-old cited a lack of energy for his departure from Anfield and suggested that it may be a while before he takes over another team.

Despite that, there were claims on Thursday that Klopp has been approached to take charge as the USA national team manager. Far less involved than leading a club like Liverpool, perhaps it could have appealed to Jurgen.

And as he watches Arne Slot settle into his old office at the AXA Training Centre, it appears that the German has come to a decision.

Jurgen Klopp makes decision on managerial future

Klopp has certainly had a busy summer. Busy in a different way to preparing for another hectic season on Merseyside, of course. But packed nonetheless.

Klopp sent a message to Nuri Sahin as he prepares to take over his former job at Borussia Dortmund and you get the impression that the Liverpool legend does not envy the task ahead of his ex-player.

Instead, Klopp can take in a Taylor Swift concert or enjoy the tennis in Mallorca. He doesn’t need to answer to anyone.

But with the USA so keen to hire him – and former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard claiming he can convince Klopp to join – a decision was required from Jurgen.

According to ESPN though, Klopp is now ‘very unlikely’ to take initial talks any further with the US.

The powers that be at United States Soccer had reportedly made ‘overtures’ to the former Liverpool boss as they look to replace Gregg Berhalter.

However, Klopp is said to have been ‘consistent’ with his assertion that he wants to take at least a year out from football.

It is even claimed that ‘a source’ has informed ESPN that the German boss has decided that he ‘may not manage again.’ A big decision from Jurgen.

What will Jurgen Klopp do next?

Away from the issue that Klopp is barely two months into his sabbatical, there’s also a question of whether the US could afford him.

Klopp would ask for a big wage to take over America and it is not a guarantee that they could pay him what he’d want. All in all, it was a tough sell for Jurgen.

Instead, we can’t see him heading anywhere in a rush. If the absolute perfect opportunity came up over the course of the season, maybe he’d think about it. But we simply can’t see what that could be.

The Germany job is certainly not about to be up for grabs and Klopp knows that he could walk into just about any club in the world if he wanted to. That isn’t likely to change over the next year.

So, we actually could see Jurgen enjoying his retirement and simply never taking over another club again. We wouldn’t mind that, but it would be nice to get his expertise and personality involved in football some other way.
