Liverpool were very well represented in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary England squad for Euro 2024.
The Reds had four players included, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones among the 33-strong squad.
But that was only for the nation’s training camp and preparation games with Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland for of the major tournament.
Since then, Southgate has been forced to cut his squad down to 26, with Quansah and Jones among the unlucky players to have been axed.
Their Anfield teammates Alexander-Arnold and Gomez did, however, make the cut, with the defensive duo now preparing for England’s opener.
Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker make Andy Robertson England claim
The Three Lions kick their campaign off against Serbia, with Denmark and Slovenia also awaiting them in Germany.
The hosts have already commenced their tournament, smashing the ten men Scotland 5-1 in the opening match.

Captaining his side in that heavy defeat was Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, a player that both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer believe is good enough to start for the current England team.
As per BBC Sport on X, Lineker said of the £8million defender: “He’s a brilliant left-back isn’t he?”
Shearer replied: “Yeah very, very good. In the modern day, you have to get up and down, you have to be good on the ball, have the ability to put balls into the box, and he ticks all of those boxes.
Lineker concurred: “He’s a proper all-round full-back in the modern game,” with Shearer noting: “He for me would get in the England team without a doubt.”
Lineker agreed: “He would definitely, because obviously it’s an issue for England that position because of so many injuries,” with Shearer adding: “If everyone was fit he would still get in.”
Andy Robertson’s Liverpool teammates hoping for better start
As mentioned, Robertson was on the receiving end of a thumping from host nation Germany, with their task made even more difficult when Ryan Porteous was sent off after 45 minutes.
Pat Nevin claimed that the Scotland captain and his high-profile teammates would have been aiming for a place in the knockout stages prior to the tournament getting underway, but those ambitions have now been dealt a huge blow.

The Scots now have the chance to put things right when they take on Switzerland, although the latter also started on the front foot as they beat Hungary 3-1.
It remains to be seen what Southgate has in store for Robertson’s defensive teammates Alexander-Arnold and Gomez versus Serbia, but it is clear that they will be hoping for a much better result.
It is also uncertain what Southgate has planned for his left-back position, a role that has troubled the Three Lions in recent times.
