Staff at Liverpool are now openly talking about selling ‘unbelievable’ player this summer

Things are set to change quite drastically at Liverpool under the stewardship of Arne Slot.

Slot looks set to be announced as Jurgen Klopp’s successor any day now. The Dutchman has plenty of work to do.

As well as looking at incomings in the transfer market, Slot is going to have to oversee exactly what happens with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three have contracts ending in just over a year.

Although things will largely be handled by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, Slot will no doubt have some input into how things are handled. With Salah already looking likely to stay, we await news on both Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold.

Both players are likely to be subject to interest this summer if Liverpool cannot tie them down. And according to reports on Thursday, another Reds player could be in danger of leaving, too.

Liverpool discussing Luis Diaz sale

You’ll be hard pushed to find a Liverpool fan who would happily wave goodbye to either Trent or Van Dijk this summer. Both are still huge players for the Reds.

However, with a new manager in charge after almost nine years of Klopp, most will accept that some change is necessary.

With that in mind, there have been rumours that Liverpool could part ways with Luis Diaz at the end of the season. After two-and-a-half years at Anfield, Diaz has been attracting interest from PSG.

Reports this week have claimed that Liverpool will actually look to bring in a new wide forward in the off-season. And according to the Liverpool ECHO, that could well be at Diaz’s expense.

They claim that despite being one of the lower earners at the club, the Colombian will find himself ‘towards the back of the queue’ for a contract renewal. The situations of Salah, Van Dijk and Trent all supersede Diaz.

This could reportedly lead to the 27-year-old being moved on if interest in him solidifies. It’s even said that conversations between Liverpool staff about selling Diaz are ‘openly’ happening.

The Reds have reportedly contemplated selling their No.7 and will apparently have a plan for if that eventually happens.

Who could Liverpool sign if Luis Diaz leaves

Diaz has been one of Liverpool’s best players recently. As Conor Bradley recently pointed out, he’s an ‘unbelievable’ footballer. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that his output is a little on the low side still.

Having come in to replace Sadio Mane, Diaz’s numbers will always be compared to the Senegalese legend. In this, his first non-injury ruined season at Anfield, Diaz has bagged 13 goals.

The simple fact of the matter is that Mane outscored that number – often comfortably – in five of his six seasons as a Liverpool player. The only time the 32-year-old didn’t beat 13 was in his first year at the club, when he equalled it in only 29 games. Diaz has played 48 this year.

So, that’s why Jamie Carragher recently claimed that the Colombia international could be improved upon. There wouldn’t be all that many complaints if he were sold.

If Diaz goes though, someone needs to replace him. Our pick would be Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. With Liverpool reportedly interested, keep an eye on that.
