One Liverpool player was particularly impressive against Manchester United, and it went under the radar.
There is no sugarcoating it. Yesterday’s draw at Old Trafford was a major blow in the Premier League title race.
Liverpool were simply not ruthless enough front of goal and it cost them. The Reds squandered multiple opportunities that should have been converted into goals.
They were also sloppy in defensive transitions, particularly after Jurgen Klopp made his substitutions.
Time and time again, United were able to surge up the pitch and cause Liverpool problems defensively. It’s how Kobe Mainoo was able to score United’s second goal, with acres of space ahead of him.
Liverpool will now simply hope this result doesn’t cost them in the Premier League title race.
At the end of the day, there are still a lot of games left to be played. And Liverpool remain level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table.

What Luis Diaz did that went under the radar against Man United
Liverpool’s front three simply were not at the races yesterday in front of goal. Both Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah squandered huge opportunities.
Opportunities that if they converted, Liverpool would have gone onto win the game. Undoubtedly, they will rue those errors.
However, while Nunez and Salah will be disappointed by their performance, there was one Liverpool player who can be pleased with his efforts in the front three.
Luis Diaz once again put in a brilliant performance. His constant energy caused United plenty of problems and it seemed like everything good flowed down on Liverpool’s left-side.
Diaz was able to torment Diogo Dalot and Harry Maguire, and it was no surprise to see him find the back of the net once again.
The Colombian now has 10 goal contributions in his last 15 matches for Liverpool. He has also made a goal contribution in all three of his matches since coming back from the international break.
Luis Diaz’s impressive stats against Manchester United
It wasn’t just his goal of course. Diaz’s all round performance was brilliant. Unlike Salah or Nunez, Diaz didn’t fumble his chance when the opportunity came from open play. He buried the ball into the back of the net.
Diaz was also a constant lively presence. According to Fotmob, he completed the most dribbles in the match, succeeding in six of his 10 dribble attempts.
He also managed to get two of his five shots on target from open play which is the same amount as Salah and Nunez combined from a total of 10 shots from open play.
When it mattered, Diaz was quite clearly one of the best players on the pitch for Liverpool. The way he caused United problems, you could make a case for this being one of his best performances of the season.
As Conor Bradley has said, Diaz’s has been ‘unbelievable’ recently.
