Liverpool vs Manchester City brought plenty of entertainment. The scoreline may not have reflected it but this was an intense match fought between two very competitive sides who were both looking to go full throttle at one another.

In the end, what accumulated was a brilliant game that was end to end from the beginning until the very end. Although, you could definitely make the case that Liverpool had the better of Manchester City in the second-half.

Jurgen Klopp’s men really dominated the game and created plenty of opportunities during the second-half of the game. Some of those opportunities should have been taken by the Reds as well. Most notably a couple of chances that fell to Luis Diaz, where the Colombian will admit he should have done a lot better.

But the Reds cannot rue what is in the past. All they can do is move forward.

Phil Thompson on Luis Diaz

Undoubtedly, one of the most entertaining parts of the game was the way Luis Diaz handled the challenges that were thrown at him by Kyle Walker. The duo enjoyed an intense battle throughout the 90 minutes. It was a battle which Diaz probably won in the end.

That is according to former Liverpool player, Phil Thompson at least, who said on Liverpool’s official podcast channel that he had never seen Walker as rattled as he was yesterday.

“He [Luis Diaz] could have and should have won it for us. Two absolutely wonderful chances. But his work-rate. He was shattered near the end. What he put in, I’ve never seen Kyle Walker so rattled and it was all because of his persistence, and his ability,” Thompson said.

Thompson is probably right. Walker is a great defender, but he really struggled coming up against Diaz. The 27-year-old twisted him inside and out at times. The way he ran relentlessly up and down the pitch was an absolute joy to watch.

It was yet more proof that the winger is now back to his best form, after having a little bit of a dip towards the end of last year.
