Harvey Elliott says there’s something loads of people still ‘don’t realise’ about him

It has been a great season for Harvey Elliott as he consolidates his place in the Liverpool first-team.

Elliott is something of a veteran in the Reds squad, having now been at the club for almost five years. In that time, the England U21 international has racked up over 100 appearances.

Having truly found his feet as starter last season, Elliott has been more of a ‘super-sub’ this time around. That hasn’t altered his impact though, with the former Fulham youngster growing in stature all the time.

The last few weeks have brought more evidence of that, with Elliott receiving plaudits on the international stage, too. As Liverpool look to end the season with more silverware, the 20-year-old is set to play a big role.

More still to come from Harvey Elliott

Having been around the first-team for so long now – and also taken in an excellent season on-loan at Blackburn – it’s easy to forget how young Elliott still is.

This year prospects like Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley have rightly been praised for taking senior football in their strides.

However, Elliott is actually three months younger than Quansah, and the same amount of time older than Bradley. He’s still a pup himself.

This is something Liverpool’s No.19 addressed when speaking to liverpoolfc.com today. With his 21st birthday to come next Thursday, Elliott admitted that people sometimes overlook just how young he really is.

“I feel older, to be honest!” he exclaimed. “I think a lot of people don’t realise I’m 20, turning 21. What I’ve experienced so far in my life, not only in my football career, has been unbelievable. But for me it’s only the start and I just need to keep going.

“Sometimes I do forget I’m young. I just love football, I just want to keep playing for Liverpool and keep getting these experiences. Hopefully many more to come. Getting old now!”

What does the future hold for Elliott

As good as he has been this season, it’s tough to see how Elliott breaks in to become a regular starter for Liverpool.

Perhaps the new manager will have a different idea, but it feels like there are too many ahead of him in the midfield stakes right now.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Elliott can’t be a thoroughly useful player for Liverpool. He’s already racked up 41 appearances this season. That’s the joint second-most in the squad, despite only 21 being starts.

As he continues to age and develop, Harvey will no doubt add more strings to his bow. He’s already a fine little player. That people regularly forget his age is testament to his quality and maturity. Keep it up, Harv, and happy birthday for next week!
