Harvey Elliott has really gone under the radar for Liverpool. But quietly the 20-year-old has put in some superb performances over the course of the whole season.
There is no denying he hasn’t started as many games as he would have liked. He was undoubtedly more involved in the starting line-up last season. But not having that pressure on him, and coming on from the bench has actually seemed to benefit him.
Elliott is playing with newfound confidence and drive. Every time he comes on the pitch he makes a impact and creates chances for his teammates. And recently, when he has been starting for Liverpool in Mohamed Salah’s absence, Elliott has also made an impact from the beginning of the game.
He was superb against Luton, even more impressive in the Carabao Cup final – playing all 120 minutes – and put in solid performances against Southampton and Nottingham Forest as well. But it’s not just the eye tests that Elliott passes, he also comes out on top in the statistics.

Only Pascal Gross is better than Harvey Elliott in a key metric
According to the football analytics account @SawkurGod on Twitter, out of midfielders who have made at least 23 appearances this season in Europe’s top five leagues – only Pascal Gross averages more expected assists than Harvey Elliott on a per 90 minute basis.
Elliott may only have three assists in the Premier League, but based on this statistics, the data would suggest he should have more. It’s clear that he is creating high-quality chances on a regular basis when he is on the pitch. Perhaps what’s lacking is the finishing touch from his teammates.
But that is nothing Elliott can help. Even with that being said, Elliott already has five goal contributions in the Premier League – which is his record for a single campaign in England’s top flight. And he’s accomplished this all in just over 700 minutes – roughly a goal contribution every 146 minutes. Not bad.
