Liverpool are gearing up for their biggest transfer window in years this summer.
With Jurgen Klopp set to leave the club at the end of the season, it’s imperative that Liverpool get their transfer business right for the new coach.
There will be plenty of difference in opinion over exactly how they go about doing that. And with still a few months to go before the transfer window even thinks about opening, the Reds have already been linked with a handful of players.
One of those most heavily linked up to this point has been Wolves attacker Pedro Neto. With Neto expected to be moving on from Molineux this summer, Liverpool have been rumoured to be considering an approach.
Having been enjoying a season that Wolves legend Steve Bull has called ‘unbelievable’ [Express & Star], it’s no surprise to hear of interest from the Reds.
However, there are still question marks over Neto. His injury history should be especially troubling to Liverpool, and, unfortunately, that has reared its head once again today.
Neto out for the season
According to Wolves manager Gary O’Neil via journalist Charlie Haffenden on X, Neto’s season could already be over.
Having pulled up with what looked like a hamstring issue against Fulham last weekend, O’Neil confirmed today that the 23-year-old may not play again this season.
“Pedro, potentially end of season for him, very similar to the injury he had on the other side,” the manager explained.
From a Liverpool point of view, that should end whatever interest they had in Neto.
On the face of it, that might sound harsh. The Portugal international is obviously a very talented player who could be a potential replacement should Mohamed Salah leave.

But with Wolves reportedly looking for around £79m to sell Neto, there are just too many red flags for Liverpool.
Just look at the injury issues they’ve had this campaign. How foolish would it be to spend potentially the whole budget on a player who’s last three season appearances read as follows: 2021/22 – 13, 2022/23 – 19, 2023/24 – 23.
That’s just 55 appearances over a near three-year period. There’s simply no way Liverpool should entertain a player for that fee with that record.
Neto is a fine player who would no doubt add a great deal to the Reds squad. But through no real fault of his own, he’s surely just ruled himself out of a potential move to Anfield this summer.
