Liverpool fans have been pleasantly surprised by Wataru Endo ever since his summer arrival from Stuttgart.
Having come as a bolt from the blue, there was general surprise over Endo’s signing in August. Many supporters had barely even heard of the then 30-year-old midfielder.
After an initial settling period though, Endo has been absolutely terrific. This culminated in a quite brilliant display against reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday, when the Japan international was named as Man of the Match by a supporter vote on Liverpool’s official X page.
And so impressed were fans by Endo, that they appear to have created a brand new chant for their No.3 in the days following the game. As posted by X account Anything Liverpool last night, supporters were spotted singing along to a tailored rendition of ABBA’s Voulez-Vous.
“Wat-a-ruuuu, Endo! He is Japanese, Endo! He wears number three, Endo! And he’s going to win the league.” Like it.
Liverpool fans coin Endo song
The Endo song might sound familiar to Liverpool fans as being the same tune used for a little ditty in honour of Sadio Mane some years back.
For whatever reason, the Mane song never fully caught on. But as the Reds push on to an unlikely Premier League title, you can see why it might be different for Endo.
The defensive midfielder has quickly become something of a symbol for Liverpool’s determined and dogged assault on the championship.
Signed very much as a back-up option, there was not much expectation that Endo would be the man the Reds needed in the No.6 role.

But just as Liverpool themselves have proven everyone wrong and gone again this season, so their No.3 has too.
It isn’t an exaggeration to say that Endo is in the conversation to be the Reds’ player of the season. He will likely ultimately be pipped by Virgil van Dijk to that mantle, but he’s right up there.
Indeed, Liverpool are still yet to lose a Premier League game that Endo has started in this season. He’s become their lucky charm and so much more besides.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s glowing assessment of his teammate yesterday only added more fuel to the fire. This is a player who’s fast achieving cult status at Anfield. Let’s wait and see whether supporters take this new song to the terraces over the coming weeks.
