Things are not getting desperate at Liverpool just yet. But the injury situation is becoming a little bit worrying for Jurgen Klopp. Especially, after last weekend’s game against Brentford.

The injuries to both Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were a huge blow for Liverpool, even if the Reds didn’t feel it during the game. While Jones will be a big miss, undoubtedly Jota’s injury, which at this point seems a lot more serious, could be the bigger blow of the two.

Jota has been sensational recently and he’s been the key for Liverpool being able to ride through this wave of Mohamed Salah’s absence on the pitch. Game after game Jota has stepped up with decisive moments, and has become integral to the club’s success.

Not having him available is going to be a huge loss for Liverpool. However, it might be a golden opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to do something that has been paying dividends for him already this season.

Time for Jurgen Klopp to unleash Jayden Danns

This season when there has been injuries to key players Jurgen Klopp has used his academy to deal with the setbacks. Earlier on in the campaign Jarell Quansah stepped up in the absence of Joel Matip. Meanwhile more recently Conor Bradley has fought himself into the team in the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Now with Jota ruled out this could be an opportunity for one of Liverpool’s young attackers in the academy to make their mark in the first team. The best candidate to do so could be Jayden Danns, who has scored 21 goals in 22 games at academy level this season.

Having hit nine goals and two assists in nine games in the U18 Premier League, Danns has recently been promoted to the U21 team, where he has so far scored twice and registered three assists in four games. He’s also now regularly training with Liverpool’s first team. Based on his performances this season, he seems like a special prospect.

A player who has the physical traits to be a fantastic number nine, Danns recently said he was compared to Roberto Firmino during his early days at the academy. He was also among a group of players who Jurgen Klopp described as ‘special’ recently. Now it could be the time for him to get that chance in Jota’s absence and follow in the footsteps of Quansah and Bradley.
