Liverpool are given worrying injury updates on Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones

Liverpool’s victory over Brentford was tainted by two things that happened in the first half. First, it was Curtis Jones limping off the pitch. The second was Diogo Jota being carried off in a stretcher.

Neither injury looked very positive. On the surface from what we witnessed, it seems like both could miss a considerable chunk of time. Although we of course will hope for the best, and keep our fingers crossed that is not the case.

Jones and Jota being out for a long time would undoubtedly be a blow to Liverpool’s title aspirations. Over the last couple of months, Jota has quickly become Liverpool’s most prolific forward, and has brought the best out his attacking partners as well.

Meanwhile, Jones has been one of Liverpool’s most reliable midfielders. He’s been playing week in, week out and never putting a foot wrong. Jones has essentially made the left-sided central midfield role his own. Not having him as an option will put a dent in an already scarce pool of players Jurgen Klopp can pick from in the midfield department.

Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota injury latest

Liverpool now have an anxious wait on their hands to discover just how long the two players will be ruled out of action for. Jones and Jota will both undergo assessments at the club. And based on a report from The Athletic the omens were not good for either as they left Brentford at the weekend.

The Athletic reported that both Jota and Jones left the stadium on crutches. Jones was wearing a protective boot. Meanwhile, Jota’s knee was in a brace.

Of course, it’s standard procedure to put on a protective boot even after a potentially mild injury – just as a precaution. Nonetheless, it is a worry. It suggests that Liverpool’s medical staff may think that there is something more serious going on, which has to be assessed further.

All that means is that Liverpool now have a worrying few days ahead. All of us will be eagerly waiting news for injury updates. And Rousing the Kop will bring you the latest as soon as we can.
