‘He’s amazing’… Alexis Mac Allister says Mo Salah did something brilliant against Brentford

It was a mixed day of injury news for Liverpool, as they got one big attacking player back, but lost another.

The bad news was that having been in a brilliant run of form, Diogo Jota was stretchered off with a suspected knee injury. The better news was in the man who came on to replace him; a certain Mohamed Salah.

Appearing just before half-time, it took Salah just ten minutes of the restart to make a decisive impact. It was his brilliant, incisive pass which created the space for Alexis Mac Allister to slot home the crucial second goal of the day.

13 minutes later and Mo was at it again. This time the glory belonged to the Egyptian, as he latched onto Cody Gakpo’s header before slotting in Liverpool’s third.

It was an incredible impact from the man who could well be the Premier League’s best player. And speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Mac Allister raved about the Reds’ Egyptian King.

“He’s amazing, I’m very happy for him,” gushed the Argentine. “He’s been out and he’s been a little bit frustrated about it, but he came back and in just a couple of minutes he scores and assists. Amazing player, an amazing leader for us, very happy for him.”

Salah makes crowning return

Had Jota not been injured – and Curtis Jones too – this would have been an absolutely perfect day for Liverpool.

It had looked like a tricky game heading into it. A 12.30 kick-off at a stadium where they’ve never won at, plenty were predicting the Reds to struggle.

But owing largely to the brilliance of Salah, Liverpool breezed past the Bees.

Jota’s injury was obviously a massive blow. There’s no question that the Portugal international was the best player on the pitch up until that point.

There’s actually a good argument that Diogo has been Liverpool’s standout star of recent weeks.

Ever since Salah departed for AFCON at the start of January, the Reds’ No.20 has really stepped up. He’s taken on the mantle of being the team’s biggest goal threat.

But with Mo now back, today was a clear sign that the 31-year-old is ready to snatch that back.

Having been out injured for several weeks, you could have expected to have seen some rust from Salah. There was none of that at all, though. Right from the first minutes, Liverpool’s No.11 looked sharp as ever.

The goal and assist were of the highest order and exactly what we needed to see from Mo today. So good to have him back.
