Liverpool are currently going head-to-head with Arsenal for the right to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League.
The Reds recently lost to Mikel Arteta’s team, allowing them back into the title fight. Perhaps the best player on the pitch for Arsenal that day was midfielder Jorginho.
In the wake of his dominating display against Liverpool, you could forgive Jorginho for being a little bullish about the Reds. However, in a video on the JD Football YouTube Channel today, the Italian has praised Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. Initially asked to name the five best players in the Premier League, the channel’s co-host jumped in to predict Jorginho’s answers.
“I think you’re going to say De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah. I think you’re going to say Erling Haaland,” he said.
“These three for sure,” admitted the 32-year-old, before struggling to name two more. “It’s a tough one, yeah it’s tough, I’m struggling here!”
“You could say Rodri maybe,” offered the co-host. “It could be, but I will go for Saka, and for the fifth, I will put Reece James,” replied Jorginho.
Jorginho puts Salah at the top
Jorginho has already previously praised the quality of Salah. As recently as December, the Italy international named Liverpool’s No.11 as his toughest ever opponent.
Given the quality of players Jorginho has faced in the midfield throughout his career, that’s high praise for Mo.
This time around, it’s hard to argue too much with the £12m Arsenal man. Although he struggled with naming two more to complete the quintet, De Bruyne, Haaland and Salah are comfortably the Premier League’s best players right now.
In terms of all round output, we’d still argue that the Egyptian comes out on top of that list. Even having been missing for the past four league games, Salah is still second in the scoring charts and joint second in assists.
He is below Haaland who has scored two more than him, but Mo betters the Norwegian eight to five on assists.

Of course, the king of the pre-goal pass is De Bruyne. Despite being injured for most of the season so far, the mercurial Belgian has set up four goals and scored one in just five games.
There are a number of other players who can argue that they should be in the conversation for the other two slots in the top five. However, we’re not sure Reece James is one of them, Saka perhaps is.
As De Bruyne returns from injury to full fitness, his inclusion may still tip the scales in City’s favour in the title race.
But with Salah now back, rested and hungry, he could drag Liverpool there almost on his own. He’s that good, and Jorginho knows it.
