A win is a win. That is all that matters in the end. Not the manner of the victory, but simply what the scoreboard reads in the end. For Jurgen Klopp’s side against Burnley that was of the utmost importance this weekend.

After the disappointment of Arsenal last weekend, the Reds didn’t so much need to put in a good performance, but they definitely needed to get three points and continue their charge at the top of the Premier League table.

Klopp’s side managed that to perfection. Even if it wasn’t always smooth sailing. There were definitely times when Liverpool looked like they rode their luck. But given the circumstances, with so many players out due to flu or injuries – Klopp will take this result. It’s something to build on as the Reds prepare to travel to the capital again next weekend with Brentford on the horizon.

Jurgen Klopp’s Curtis Jones experiment

In the second half against Burnley, Klopp was forced into an experiment that also took everyone by surprise. When Trent Alexander-Arnold had to be substituted, the Liverpool manager decided to play Curtis Jones in the right-back role.

This is a role Jones has never really played in his entire career. He’s always been more comfortable going forward. The only other times he has featured as a right-back was against Leicester City in the League Cup earlier this season.

But Jones didn’t disappoint. He looked calm and assured in the role. In fact he was one of the best players on the pitch, creating the second most chances for Liverpool (3), and winning all of his attempted tackles (2/2). Very much firmly proving that Klopp’s bold experiment once again worked in Liverpool’s favour.
