There were so many players getting the plaudits against Chelsea last night. But among them, one player who probably really deserved the attention and went unnoticed a little bit was Alexis Mac Allister.
Such if the life of a holding midfielder. When they are not in the team or not playing well, their presence or lack thereof is often noticed. But when they are doing well and providing stability for the team – their efforts go unnoticed.
The media has been talking mostly about Conor Bradley and Darwin Nunez. Both deserve praise in their own right. Bradley was simply sensational, and it’s incredible to see him getting two assists and a goal in such a big match. Nunez, too, was at his best, harassing Chelsea’s defence with a sublime performance. But it was Mac Allister who once again broke a record that no other Liverpool player has in the last three season. And no one is talking about it.

Alexis Mac Allister vs Chelsea
The Argentine was simply sensational for Liverpool. He made the most tackles on the pitch (7) and won the most duels (11). When you compare that to someone like Moises Caicedo who failed to win a single tackle in the game – Mac Allister’s performance becomes even more impressive.
On top of that, when you compare Mac Allister’s performance to Liverpool players in the last three years – it becomes even more remarkable.
According to Squawka, Mac Allister made the most tackles by any Liverpool player in the Premier League over the last three seasons. The only time a Liverpool player made more tackles was Mac Allister himself in the game against Bournemouth earlier this year.
This is hardly a surprising stat. Liverpool’s midfield hasn’t been the best in the last few seasons. Meanwhile, Mac Allister is in a league of his own.
