Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he is due to leave Liverpool has sparked debate over plenty of futures at Anfield.
Virgil van Dijk’s comments yesterday suggested that he could yet follow Klopp out of the exit door, while Andy Robertson has also surprisingly been tipped to leave, too.
So far though, most of the focus has, obviously, centred on Klopp. The 56-year-old has been adamant that he won’t take on another job for at least a year following his departure from Liverpool. But that hasn’t stopped speculation over where he could be heading next.
And according to legendary Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, he could see Klopp joining the biggest club in his homeland at some point.
“I think it depends on him,” Neuer reportedly told a Bayern fan meeting via Kronen Zeitung. “I don’t think FC Bayern has anything against it. Klopp is a renowned, very good, experienced, tactically shrewd coach who wins great respect from all footballers and athletes. I think he’s definitely a potential candidate who could also work for Bayern Munich later on.
“Whether he wants to do that is of course up to him. Or if he says he wants to take a break first. Maybe not the day-to-day business anymore – maybe be a national coach one day, I can also imagine for him. First and foremost, of course, it depends on him.”
Neuer backs Klopp for Bayern
With current manager Thomas Tuchel’s contract set to end in 2025, you can understand the thinking behind this one.
Bayern are comfortably Germany’s most high profile side, Klopp is the country’s best and brightest manager. It’s an obvious link to make.
But that would be to ignore the values of Liverpool’s manager.
Jurgen is a legend at Bayern’s great rivals Borussia Dortmund. It really feels unlikely that he’d betray that and sign on in Munich.
Furthermore the Reds boss has previously turned Bayern down. Seemingly on more than one occasion. In quotes from The Telegraph in 2022, Klopp spoke out about his past dealings with the Bundesliga record champions.

“I could have gone to Bayern a few times,” he admitted. “I could have won more titles in my life, pretty sure I would say – a good chance at least. I didn’t do it. I had a contract here and I never did it.
“The world is not full of winners. The world is full of triers, hopefully. I try and sometimes I win together with some other people. I am happy with that.”
Given Klopp’s preference for building something special at a more ‘underdog’ team, it seems unlikely that he’d change that stance now.
Still, maybe the pull of the behemoth that his Bayern will finally wear him down. Let’s see what the future holds. For now, he’s still ours. So hands off Manuel!
