Things are yet to die down at Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he’s due to leave the club.
Klopp shocked just about everyone on Friday morning by relaying his surprise decision to depart Anfield at the end of the season. Since then, the world has gone into overdrive predicting just who could follow him as Liverpool manager.
So far, most of the coverage has focused on former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso. However, a few more notable names have been thrown into the mix, too.
One who hasn’t really been mentioned so far is Graham Potter. However, speaking to RTE this week, Bruce Grobbelaar has claimed that the former Chelsea boss could be the right fit for Liverpool.
“What he did with Brighton, he had to mould young players and get them into the first team and manage that type of environment and I think he would be very fitting to come to Liverpool,” Grobbelaar insists.
“Because we’ve got some great youngsters and use them to carry on the legacy that Klopp has left.”
Grobbelaar makes Potter suggestion
With some slightly more exotic names doing the rounds, there will be plenty who dismiss Potter straight off the bat. After failing at Chelsea last season, the 48-year-old’s stock is hardly high right now.
In reality, his brief stint at Stamford Bridge should probably be enough to rule him out of taking a job like Liverpool for a little while.
In all likelihood, Potter will have to drop down a level again to rebuild his reputation.
Having said that though, you could see a world in which the Englishman becomes an astute appointment for Liverpool.
Given that Mauricio Pochettino is also struggling at Chelsea, maybe Potter’s time there should be seen in a new light. The club is a bit of a mess right now. Few managers could go in and turn things around.

Perhaps instead, we should be focusing on the body of work Potter had put together in the years before it all went pear shaped.
Do that, and you see a talented, driven, emotionally intelligent man who knows how to put a football team together. Under the right conditions at Liverpool, he could certainly succeed.
Having said that, following the Reds’ greatest manager of the modern era probably is not the right conditions. It’s set to be a tough job for anyone. But for Potter, fresh from the Chelsea scrap heap, the timing is off.
Don’t rule him out completely, though. Liverpool could yet throw up a surprise.
