Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been facing criticism as of late, and he has compared his situation to that of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, when he first arrived at Anfield.
Taking to his pre-match press conference ahead of the Blues’ clash against Fulham tomorrow, the former Brighton coach likened the berating he has endured to previous examples experienced by other Premier League managers.
“You have to understand that it’s part of the job,” Potter said.
“I think you only have to look at some of my colleagues in a similar position, Pep [Guardiola] for example in his first season was criticised quite heavily.
“Mikel [Arteta] has had to endure a period of criticism.
“Jurgen Klopp would’ve got some criticism as well and these guys are fantastic. So, you understand.”

Whilst the criticism endured by Potter at the moment is probably quite unfair, his situation isn’t that comparable to Klopp’s at Anfield.
When the German first arrived on Merseyside, the Reds were tenth in the Premier League table. The squad was a shadow of its current self, so it’s somewhat of a miracle that he led the team to the Europa League final in his first season.
Recruiting the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, the quality of the Liverpool team is completely unrecognisable compared to what it was when Brendan Rodgers was in charge.
Potter’s Chelsea squad, on the other hand, was already full of European stars upon his arrival. This was certainly not the case for Klopp, who had to build everything from the ground up.
This is something the Reds manager seems he needs to do all over again, as Liverpool are in a very bad place this season.
