Liverpool have sounded out £100m player over a move, he’s set to leave his club in the summer

Liverpool have already tried to make headway in signing a key man from a Premier League rival.

With the January transfer window in full swing now, the Reds are being linked with a great number of players. As things stand though, it looks unlikely that Liverpool will be doing any business.

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that plans aren’t beginning to be formulated for the summer. Jorg Schmadtke looks like he could well be staying for another off-season window and the German is likely to be busy again.

With that in mind, Spanish outlet AS have reported that one of Liverpool’s previous transfer targets will be on the move at the end of the campaign. They claim that Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes is set to leave St James’ Park owing to his club’s failure to comply with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

Although they need to balance the books, Newcastle reportedly won’t let Bruno leave on the cheap, though. However, it is claimed that the Magpies will allow his reported £100m release clause be paid over three separate instalments.

This is seemingly likely to lead to interest from a great number of clubs. PSG are said to have already discussed the possibility of signing the Brazilian this month. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Chelsea are claimed to have ‘sounded out’ Bruno over a transfer in the past. Barcelona are another potentially ready to get involved, and the Catalans are reportedly the player’s favoured destination.

Liverpool on alert over Bruno

With news emerging this week that Newcastle may have to sell a star player to fund further forays in the transfer market, this is interesting.

We think next summer will be the perfect time for Liverpool to finally make a concrete offer for Bruno.

They’ve reportedly been admirers for some time and there’s arguably a spot now ready-made for him in the midfield. The fee may still be high but given Newcastle’s very public financial issues, maybe there’s a deal to be had.

What’s certain is that if Liverpool fail to make their own move, then somebody else will.

Bruno has proven himself to be a top quality midfielder ever since arriving at Newcastle two years ago. If he really is on the market, then he won’t be short of options.

According to reports from last summer, Liverpool have already tried to position themselves as one of those options.

However, with Newcastle in the Champions League this season, Bruno himself is said to have turned down any approaches to leave Tyneside.

With Eddie Howe’s side struggling in mid-table currently and with the need to bring big money in, things look like being different in 2024. Let’s see if Liverpool think this is an opportunity that’s too good to turn down.
