Jurgen Klopp says 25-year-old Liverpool player won’t be fit to play against Bournemouth on Sunday

Jurgen Klopp has given an injury update ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Reds head into the game with one very notable absentee in particular. Mohamed Salah is away at AFCON and also, as of last night, injured himself.

But Salah isn’t the only player Liverpool are missing right now. Trent Alexander-Arnold is also out injured, as are Dominik Szoboszlai and Andy Robertson, among others.

And speaking in his pre-match press conference this morning, Klopp admitted that although Trent – and the other two – are ‘close’, none will be available to play on Sunday.

“All going in the right direction getting closer and closer but for the Bournemouth game I don’t expect anyone back,” said the Liverpool boss.

“After I think, especially after, or maybe for Fulham we will see how the boys do. Trent, close, Dom close, Robbo close. All going in the right direction, all positive. But for the weekend game, no.”

Alexander-Arnold not ready for Bournemouth

Although it’s obviously not good news that Alexander-Arnold will not be fit for Sunday, this is actually a positive update from Jurgen.

The initial expectation was that the 25-year-old would be fit by the end of the month. Judging from the boss’ update today, we may even see Trent before that.

However, we’d also suggest that when Klopp was talking about players being ready for Fulham, he perhaps meant more Robertson and Szoboszlai.

Robertson was spotted at the AXA Training Centre this week as he looks to ramp up his preparation for a comeback.

Meanwhile, Szoboszlai’s issue was not expected to be serious. The Hungarian has already been out for a couple of weeks and even previously claimed that he may be ready for Sunday’s game. That clearly now won’t be the case, but he should be back soon.

Beyond that, Klopp didn’t give any further message as to when Liverpool fans can hope to see either Thiago Alcantara or Stefan Bajcetic back in training.

For now then, this will have to do. The Reds will have to make do without a number of important players on Sunday.

Get through that though, and it looks like Trent, and a few others, will be available before long.
