Liverpool are ready to take advantage of Chelsea’s need to sell some of their homegrown talent.
The Reds were reportedly massively keen on bringing Levi Colwill from Stamford Bridge to Anfield in the summer. However, with his place in the Chelsea first-team secured, Colwill stayed put.
Since then, the 20-year-old has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino. But nevertheless, according to HITC, the Blues may yet be in a position to have to cash in on Colwill.
It’s claimed that despite his importance to Pochettino this season, Chelsea could be in need of selling homegrown players in 2024. The club are reportedly in danger of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules and are said to believe that selling off homegrown talent would be a good way of solving this issue.
As a result, it’s claimed that Liverpool have ‘maintained a watching brief’ over Colwill ever since the summer.
Should the Reds get wind that Chelsea would be open to selling the England international, they would reportedly be straight in there with an offer.
Liverpool still in for Colwill
With Colwill taking his place as one of Chelsea’s starting centre-backs this season, this little saga had appeared to over.
Indeed, at one stage of the summer though, it had looked like Liverpool were in with a real shout of snaring the Cobham graduate.
Reports surfaced that Colwill was actually a boyhood Reds fan. Meanwhile, Liverpool seemingly believed they could genuinely get him.
But through it all, a sale did seem virtually impossible. The player himself came out and told the press at the start of this season that he’d never truly considered leaving Chelsea.

If these reports are to be believed though, then Colwill may not actually have too much of a say in the matter. Chelsea are flying close to the wind and as seen by punishments for both Everton and Nottingham Forest this season, the Premier League are no longer messing around.
Should the Blues receive a similar sanction to Everton’s 10-point deduction earlier in the campaign, they could genuinely be pulled into the relegation picture.
The West Londoners would surely do just about anything to stop that from happening. Including selling one of their own to a direct rival.
So, all of this may well boil down to just how desperate Chelsea are. By the sounds of it Liverpool are ready to give them a way out. Let’s see if anything develops from here.
