Liverpool believe that Levi Colwill wants to leave Chelsea and move to Anfield this summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Cowill, after an impressive season on-loan at Brighton last year. And now, according to 90min, they’re ready to make their interest concrete.

They claim that Liverpool are preparing a first offer for the 20-year-old. Reportedly encouraged that Colwill himself wants the move, the Reds are set to test Chelsea’s resolve.

There’s no mention of fees at this stage, but Liverpool are said to be ‘confident’ that they can wrestle the centre-back away from Stamford Bridge.

As a result, they are now claimed to have made Colwill their top defensive target, after considering Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.

Chelsea reportedly remain ‘insistent’ that the youngster is not for sale, though. They are also said to be adamant that Colwill will be given the chances he desires next season. Something has to give.

Liverpool prepare Colwill assault

It has always felt likely that Liverpool held a genuine belief that they could get Colwill to Anfield.

The reports of their interest in the England U21 star have been concrete and reliable. However, there’s also been regular suggestions that he’s ‘untouchable’ at Chelsea [Fabrizio Romano].

The Reds don’t tend to waste their time on targets they can’t get, though. So, as a result, it’s fair to assume that they’ve been given some encouragement from somewhere.

It’s safe to say that that motivation hasn’t come from Colwill’s club. Chelsea seem determined not to lose their academy graduate, or at least to make it particularly expensive if they do.

You can certainly understand that. Colwill was described as being ‘fantastic’ by Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi last year [The Argus]. He’s as talented a young centre-half as we’ve seen in the Premier League for some years.

Because of that, Liverpool would still have to pay a premium, even if the Euro U21 winner is willing to join them.

It’ll be interesting to see if 90min’s claims are backed up over the coming days. If the Reds really are preparing an offer, then it had better be a big one.
