Fabrizio Romano has detailed the extent of Liverpool’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes, with the midfielder set to sign a new £100m contract with Newcastle United.

Speaking to CaughtOffisde, the transfer guru revealed that Liverpool insiders are big fans of the Brazilian international, with Guimaraes a target for the Reds in the summer.

However, the Anfield side ultimately missed out on Guimaraes, with the 25-year-old now set to sign a new long-term contract with Newcastle, though it could include a £100m release clause.

Indeed, Guimaraes would be an outstanding addition to Liverpool’s midfield, and Romano’s comments hint towards a move potentially being on the cards once the Brazilian has signed his new deal.

Romano said: “Some fans have also been asking me about Bruno and Liverpool transfer rumours, but they are very happy with the midfield they have.

“I can say, though, that those around Jurgen Klopp rate Bruno Guimaraes really highly and he’s always been super appreciated by people at Liverpool. There’s nothing else to mention at the moment.”

Guimaraes has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle, and Liverpool could be the South American’s next club.

In signing a contract with a release clause, Guimaraes is opening himself up to being sold by Newcastle for massive profit, and Liverpool will have to take advantage if the final figure sits at £100m.

Moreover, Guimaraes could want to make the move if Newcastle fail to qualify for Europe next season, a prospect that could well happen based on early signs this Premier League campaign.
