Jurgen Klopp says £60m Liverpool player has ‘improved’ loads recently

Jurgen Klopp has praised the turnaround in form for Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

After starting his Liverpool career like a house on fire, Szoboszlai had started to go a little off the boil recently.

Thankfully, that little dip now looks to have ended, with the Hungarian rattling in a superb goal to kick-off the scoring against West Ham United last night. It was a strike that Jamie Carragher labelled as ‘Cristiano Ronaldo-esque’.

And speaking to Sky Sports at the end of yesterday’s 5-1 win, Klopp admitted that he’d enjoyed the goal, too.

“Tonight it was one of his trademark goals,” said the Reds boss. “He [Szoboszlai] played a top game, last game already was much improved. It’s just normal. In the world we are living, everything gets judged every day, these are young human beings and sometimes they are a little bit better.

“It was just a joy to watch the boys tonight, it was one of those rare days where I think football is a really nice game.”

Szoboszlai turning it around

Although we’re delighted to see Szoboszlai get himself back into form, we do have to pick a slight hole in Jurgen’s quotes here.

It’s not for us to question the big man, but he surely didn’t just say Szoboszlai’s ‘last game was much improved.’

We love the £60m signing as much as the next man, but that simply isn’t true. Szoboszlai was really poor at the weekend against Manchester United.

Last night also wasn’t quite perfect, but it was a massive step in the tight direction for our No.8.

Not only did he get his goal – and a beauty it was at that – but his all-round game was so much better.

The engine on him is quite something and Szoboszlai’s passing radar was more regularly functioning as we saw it in the early months of the campaign, too.

This is the Dom that we need to turn up against Arsenal on Saturday.

So, it may have been a bit of a surprise to see the Hungary captain on the team sheet on Wednesday night. But in the end, it turned out to be a perfect call from Jurgen. Keep it going, Dom!
