Graeme Souness has criticised Dominik Szoboszlai after the Liverpool midfielder’s performance yesterday against Manchester United.

The Hungarian international was the first player Jurgen Klopp brought off as the 23-year-old endured what might have been his worst game yet for Liverpool.

Szoboszlai signed in the summer from RB Leipzig and hit the ground running in the Premier League, with many fans and pundits lauding the former Bundesliga star’s impact at Liverpool.

However, speaking on TalkSport, Souness was not pleased with what he saw from Szoboszlai, who in recent games has been in poor form for the Reds.

Souness said when talking about what went wrong for Liverpool against United: “I think aside from the forwards, the Liverpool players were just not on it.

“The amount of overhit passes they were making, Szoboszlai had his worst game in a Liverpool shirt, the midfield just didn’t have that key to open the door to create killer chances.”

Szoboszlai started life with Liverpool on fire, with the midfielder looking like one of the revelations of the season and a true heir to Steven Gerrard at Anfield.

However, things in recent weeks just haven’t been going well for the midfielder, with Szoboszlai’s form quietly dropping off a cliff.

Having banked a lot of credit at the start of the season, Szoboszlai still has time on his hands to turn things around as the heartbeat of Liverpool’s midfield.

However, fans and pundits are now seemingly starting to turn on the youngster, and Szoboszlai needs some big performances in the coming weeks if he’s to recapture the magic from earlier this season.
