Phil Thompson has suggested that Dominik Szoboszlai could now be exhausted after playing nonstop football this season for Liverpool and Hungary.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been ever-present for the Reds and his national team this season, with Szoboszlai starting all but seven games this campaign for club and country.
And speaking on TalkSport, Liverpool legend Thompson has suggested that Szoboszlai’s poor form in recent weeks could be down to fatigue and a lack of breaks.

Thompson said: “I think if you look at the last couple of games, there’s not a lot wrong with it. There are some players whose form has just dipped a little bit and Szoboszlai is one of them and Gravenberch’s has probably not.
“Dominik’s going through I think one of those spells where a high energy [player] has come in and he’s played in the international [European] games and playing for his national side as captain and I think it’s maybe taken effect.
“We’ve got West Ham on Wednesday, there might be a few changes in that one, but I think the modern-day managers have to look from game to game. He’ll have that Arsenal game in mind and he’ll be trying to make sure we’ll have fresh legs for that.”
Liverpool have to rest Dominik Szoboszlai tomorrow vs West Ham

Whilst Szoboszlai’s athleticism has made the midfielder as efficient as he is for Liverpool, there’s no denying that the 23-year-old could do with a rest this week against West Ham.
The Hungarian international has played nonstop for Liverpool barring the occasional rest in the UEFA Europa League, the only competition Szoboszlai hasn’t started this season.
And tomorrow against the Irons, Jurgen Klopp has to rest Szoboszlai completely, with the Reds having enough in their locker to best David Moyes and company.
Indeed, whilst some fans will want Szoboszlai to feature, giving the Hungarian a proper rest will allow the midfielder to be 100% ready for Arsenal on Saturday, a game that could take Liverpool top with a win.
