Alisson Becker shares what he’s noticed about Caoimhin Kelleher whenever he plays for Liverpool

Alisson Becker has shared his thoughts on how Caoimhin Kelleher has been doing for Liverpool.

Kelleher stepped in and played two Premier League games for the Reds recently, as Alisson sat out with an injury. The Irishman did well overall, winning the praise of Jurgen Klopp.

With Liverpool taking six points from the two games he featured in, Kelleher can be pleased with his work.

Alisson has since returned though, and is without a doubt still the Reds No.1. But speaking to the Liverpool ECHO, the Brazilian praised his understudy, claiming that every time he fills in, Kelleher does a good job.

“Caoimh is doing really well,” claimed the 31-year-old. “He’s a really good player, a talented player with a lot of personality. Sometimes we need a little bit of rhythm when you play in the team. He just needs time to develop himself and always believe that when he comes in, he makes a difference.

“He made an unbelievable save in the last game against Sheffield. This is what you want from your goalkeeper when he’s needed to be there to help the team. He can play out from the back as well, he has a lot of qualities. And every time he comes in, he gives a good response.”

Alisson heaps praise on Kelleher

Kelleher may have perhaps have been disappointed by Alisson’s early return from injury.

Initially, the Brazil goalie was slated to return by this weekend’s visit of Manchester United. That would have given Kelleher an extra Premier League game to get stuck into.

In the end though, it was a good job Ali did come back against Crystal Palace. He was badly needed, making a couple of top saves to win Liverpool the game.

Whether Kelleher would have made the same saves, we’ll never know.

But putting his irritation aside, the Irishman is still in a super position at Liverpool. Even if he isn’t playing, Kelleher is learning from and training with the best in the business every day.

For him to hear Alisson speak so positively about him should be a huge confidence booster for Caoimh.

Should Liverpool’s No.1 need to sit out again at any point during the season, Kelleher has shown once again that the Reds are in good hands.

Despite Alisson re-joining the squad, the 25-year-old should get another chance in the first XI for Liverpool’s final Europa League group game this evening.
