Rio Ferdinand was blown away by what he saw during the Liverpool warm-up this afternoon.
The Reds are at Selhurst Park today to take on Crystal Palace. It’s a big game for Liverpool, with a win set to put them top of the Premier League table.
And watching the game for TNT Sports, Ferdinand claimed that one player in particular looked sharp ahead of the match: Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“There’s no doubt in my mind and in most people’s mind who watch football matches when he plays that he’s a fabulously talented footballer,” raved the Manchester United legend, when asked about Trent.
“He’s got every pass in the bag. I was just watching him warm up there, he can play the ball in every single angle you like it, both right and left footed. He’s the most creative player in this team now, one of the most creative in the league.
“I think a lot of people harp on and worry too much about player’s weaknesses these days, rather than what here good at and when you’re great at something that can sometimes overpower any negatives that come in your game.”
Ferdinand praises Trent’s passing
This is a really good take from Ferdinand. Alexander-Arnold has his detractors for sure, but anyone who watches him cannot deny his quality.
Trent’s passing in particular is an absolute weapon. The 25-year-old really can pick any pass from anywhere.
In the first-half at Selhurst Park though, that hasn’t been wholly evident. Trent has struggled a little to get into the game, with the windy conditions in South London perhaps not helping him.
Although we’ve regularly seen him inverting into the middle of the pitch this season, he hasn’t seen too much of the ball there so far this afternoon.

We don’t necessarily mind that, that is the position from which Trent made his name as one of the best passers in the game after all.
But as Ferdinand mentions, the England international is one of the most creative players in the Premier League right now.
The more Liverpool can get him on the ball – and in potentially dangerous positions – the more effective he has the chance to be.
With chances few and far between against Palace so far, the Reds could do with perhaps getting him on it a little more in the second-half.
