Steve McManaman has suggested that Liverpool don’t need to transition Trent Alexander-Arnold into a permanent midfield role just yet.
The 25-year-old right-back is slowly evolving into becoming a more central role having now become an inverted fullback for the Reds whilst also being used for England as a central midfielder.
As a result, the question of when Alexander-Arnold will make the switch has become a big talking point for Liverpool fans and pundits in recent days.

And speaking on Amazon Prime last night in Liverpool’s coverage of their clash against Sheffield United, McManaman has now suggested that Alexander-Arnold doesn’t need to become a midfielder just yet.
With so many options for Jurgen Klopp to choose from, it makes sense why Liverpool haven’t made the move yet, with McManaman saying on the topic: “I don’t think so.
“I think it all depends on what Liverpool have to choose from in midfield. At the moment, they have a number of people who can play in there, so they don’t need Trent to play in there in this moment in time.”
Liverpool should move Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield when he’s ready

Alexander-Arnold moving into midfield already feels like a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’, yet such a decision should not be rushed by Liverpool.
The 25-year-old remains the Reds’ only senior right-back, with Liverpool also currently stacked in the central midfield position after an immense summer of spending.
And as a result, there’s no real need just yet for Alexander-Arnold to make that move centrally, though the defender could be a dream for England on an international level.
Indeed, the fullback is clearly set for a future as a midfielder, but for Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is fine where he is now as the Reds look to plan ahead.
