Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly organised a night out for the Liverpool squad after their controversial 2-1 loss to Tottenham this season.

The defeat in north London remains arguably the biggest injustice a Premier League side has suffered from the hands of VAR this campaign, with Liverpool players outraged over the failures on the day.

And after the loss, the Athletic now report that Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold organised a night out in Mayfair, with the then-injured Cody Gakpo the only player to miss out on the occasion.

The duo have taken to their new leadership roles in fantastic fashion, with Van Dijk proving to be a perfect captain after the departure of Jordan Henderson this summer.

As for Alexander-Arnold, the 25-year-old has acted superbly in the role of vice-captain, with the defender proving himself to be a real leader in the dressing room.

Whilst the night out likely did little to heal Liverpool’s spirits on the day, the act from Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold showed that they’re making the right steps to keep the squad in good harmony.

Having suffered one of the worst defeats in recent memory, Liverpool’s players needed to be lifted in good spirits as soon as possible.

And Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold did the right thing in organising an impromptu night out, even if a key player in Gakpo had to miss out due to receiving post-match treatment.

Small things like this can go a long way in keeping a squad united and motivated in achieving their goals for the season, with Liverpool eyeing the Premier League title.

Whilst a night out won’t win any points after a match, keeping the chemistry going has been huge in Liverpool remaining a strong unit this season, which can only grow as the campaign progresses.
