Jurgen Klopp ‘has faith’ in Liverpool gem Trent Alexander-Arnold thinks is ‘phenomenal’

Jurgen Klopp ‘has faith’ in Jarell Quansah stepping up and providing cover at Liverpool at a first-team level in 2023/24 following the young defender’s Premier League debut.

That is according to The Athletic, which claims that Klopp believes Quansah can make up for Liverpool failing to sign a centre-back this summer. Anfield chiefs had studied the market for defensive reinforcements to address the ongoing injury concerns with their existing options.

But the Merseyside outfit failed to answer their supporters’ calls for new centre-halves. The Reds did not believe there was an option available to sign for the right price. So, Klopp must make do with his senior regulars Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

Klopp will look to Quansah to offer Liverpool defensive depth

Klopp is prepared to dip into Liverpool’s academy for further depth at centre-half and views Quansah as a prime candidate. The German admires what the 20-year-old has shown at the junior level and with his first-team fold during pre-season and the 23/24 campaign thus far.

Quansah made Liverpool’s travelling squad for the Reds’ tour of Singapore after featuring in their mini-camp in Germany. He also enjoyed some game time during their summer fixtures after a loan spell at Bristol Rovers. The prospect spent the latter half of 22/23 in League One.

Quansah stunned Alexander-Arnold on his Premier League debut

What Quansah showed throughout the summer also earned the England Under-20 defender his competitive Liverpool debut in August. Klopp introduced the youngster as a 77th-minute substitute at Newcastle United. He also fielded him from the 71st-minute against Aston Villa.

Quansah replaced Matip at St James’ Park before taking Trent Alexander-Arnold’s spot when the full-back injured his hamstring against the Villans. His work at Newcastle even impressed Alexander-Arnold, who called Quansah ‘absolutely phenomenal’ given the site for his debut.

Seeing Quansah step onto the pitch at Newcastle for his Premier League bow and rise to the occasion astounded Alexander-Arnold. Now, Klopp is ready to back the Reds talent during the 23/24 season. But Quansah had to withdraw from England’s U20 squad this September.
