How Luis Diaz really feels about leaving Liverpool to join Saudi club

Liverpool have received no signs that Luis Diaz would accept an offer from Saudi Arabia this summer.

Diaz was surprisingly linked with a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal yesterday. With Liverpool already losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Middle East, suggestions were that Al Hilal were ready to make that duo a trio.

Unfortunately, the news of an imminent bid for the Colombian does look like being correct. Today, The Athletic have confirmed that the Saudi side are interested in making a £43m offer for Diaz.

However, the good news is that Liverpool ‘intend to reject’ each and every proposal that comes their way for the 26-year-old. He’s not for sale.

Thankfully, Diaz himself is said to have given ‘no indication’ that he’s interested in the move, either. Hopefully that should be that.

Diaz happy to stay at Liverpool

With the sums of money on offer in Saudi Arabia right now, it seems that any player anywhere is fair game. Every man has his price it seems. Keeping that in mind, news of an imminent bid for Diaz will have worried Liverpool fans yesterday.

It doesn’t feel unfeasible that the flying winger could have his head turned by a big bid. Despite having not really got properly going at Liverpool yet, you couldn’t put an early departure past him.

Nevertheless, as Al Ettifaq are finding out, you can’t just poach players on whatever terms you like. The club’s they’re being poached from have to agree to sell them.

So far, they’ve largely been buying players who were either up for sale or so old as for it not to matter too much. But Diaz would be a different ball game.

Liverpool’s No.7 has regularly been cited as their most valuable player, in terms of transfer value. Last count put him at £96m. Having signed him for an eventual £50m, they’d be looking for a serious, serious fee to even think about parting with him.

There’s no doubt that Al Hilal could pay whatever the Reds asked them to. But whether they’d be minded to negotiate or not, is anyone’s guess.

Anyway, for the moment it all looks immaterial. Let’s hope Lucho’s stance doesn’t change anytime soon. This year’s going to be a big one for him.
