After Henderson and Fabinho, Al Hilal now ready to offer £43m to sign 26-year-old Liverpool player

Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal are ready to launch a bid to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool.

The Reds have been feeling the brunt of the Saudi club’s push for relevance over the last week. With Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both looking for moves to the Middle East, they could do without losing another important player.

But according to Portuguese outlet Record, that could now be a possibility.

They claim that Al Hilal ‘intend’ to sign Diaz, with manager Jorge Jesus making a big push to bring the Colombian from Liverpool. In order to do so, the Saudis are reportedly willing to offer around £43m.

However, it won’t all be plain sailing for Al Hilal. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be unwilling to let Diaz go. Quite right too.

Liverpool braced for Diaz interest

Losing Henderson and Fabinho would be one thing for Liverpool this summer, but letting Diaz go would be a different one entirely.

It could be argued that both the midfield players are replaceable for Klopp. In fact, the Reds were probably only around a year out from phasing them out fully, anyway.

If they’re able to get decent fees for the pair, then shipping them off could even be beneficial in some ways.

But in Diaz’s case, that’s completely different. The Colombia international looks set for a huge season at Anfield. Having had his first full campaign disrupted by injuries last season, he’ll be desperate to make his mark in 2023/24.

With that in mind, Diaz has just taken over the No.7 shirt for the Reds. He’s ready to step up in Liverpool’s new-look attack. Moving to Saudi Arabia simply does not fit in with that plan.

Then again, you just don’t know anymore, do you. With the money on offer likely dwarfing his current wages, maybe Diaz simply couldn’t refuse. Plenty of others haven’t and he doesn’t even have the emotional connection to Liverpool that Fabinho or certainly Henderson have.

So, we just hope that this doesn’t go any further. We can’t see Diaz pushing to leave, and Al Hilal would perhaps have to double that initial offer. But there does come a point where Liverpool would be worrying. No more of this please, knock them back, Lucho.
