Jordan Henderson’s potential move from Liverpool to Saudi Arabia is developing in real time.

The shocking news that Henderson is leaning towards accepting a mega offer from Al Ettifaq emerged overnight. It now looks likely that the Reds will be losing their captain.

And speaking to Sky Sports News last night, journalist David Ornstein said the move was ‘developing as we speak.’

“Henderson is leaning towards accepting this offer, and it would be life-changing in terms of the fact that it’s expected to be four times his salary at Liverpool if he decides to accept it,” Ornstein reports.

“Crucially the clubs would need to agree a deal. Liverpool haven’t had any offers or contact yet, but if Jordan Henderson approves this potential move, then I think immediately the two clubs would enter talks. It seems to be developing as we speak.”

Henderson leaning towards Liverpool exit

This isn’t the news many Liverpool fans will have expected to wake up to this morning.

Yes, there have been a few reports here and there that Henderson could leave and join his Liverpool skipper predecessor Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia. But as recently as yesterday afternoon it was claimed that the 33-year-old would reject those advances.

He looked set to stay.

But that no longer seems like being the most likely outcome anymore.

Instead, it now – amazingly – feels likely that Henderson’s 12-year association with Liverpool is about to end. And of all the ways to end it.

Of course, plenty will be of the view of how can the former Sunderland man turn down such riches. But we are certainly not of that view.

Jordan is a Liverpool legend, the current captain and still has a massive part to play in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. He has two years left to run on his contract and is earning a wage that will be far, far, far out of the reaches of virtually every Liverpool fan.

There’s only one reason you give all that up, and although the numbers being talked about are ridiculous, it still doesn’t seem worth it to us. Think about what you’re giving up, Jordan. It doesn’t have to be this way.
