£34m player will not even consider leaving Liverpool this summer

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is drawing interest from Saudi Arabia, but he won’t leave this summer.

Amid the Saudi’s bid to take over football, there have been rumours that Salah could be the jewel in their crown. As the highest profile Arab player of all time, it’s easy to see the attraction of Liverpool’s No.11.

But according to journalist Neil Jones for CaughtOffside, there’s no way Mo won’t be at Anfield next season. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there was a big push to get him at some stage.

“I don’t think anything’s going to happen [with Salah] this summer, even if we do continue to see plenty of transfer rumours involving Saudi clubs, who clearly have big plans,” Jones says. “But I don’t think Liverpool would even contemplate Salah leaving this summer. I also don’t think Salah is looking to leave Liverpool now.

“Still, if Saudi do keep trying to expand their empire, then I can see them viewing Salah, a prominent figure in world football, as a massive signing for them – you’d imagine that would be high on their agenda. So I think there might be a chance of a future move, from speaking to people in Egypt in particular, but definitely not this summer.”

Salah not finished at Liverpool

As the Saudi Arabian sides continue to disrupt the transfer market, it’s heartening to hear that our Egyptian King won’t be lured away.

With Liverpool unable to offer Champions League football this season, some may have worried Mo would jump ship. But Salah often doesn’t get enough credit for his love of Liverpool. He’s been as committed as anyone since his £34m move six years ago. The 31-year-old’s not finished at Anfield yet. Nowhere near it.

As his Twitter post from the end of last season showed, he’s determined and ready to haul Liverpool back to the top.

In terms of the rest of the Reds squad, we don’t think there’s too much danger of Saudi interest, either. Roberto Firmino looks set to join Al Ahli, but as a free agent, that’s no longer Liverpool’s concern.

Thiago Alcantara is perhaps the one who may fit with the project over there. Ticking towards the end of his career, a big name in world football, you could see that happening.

But, thankfully, the Reds are reportedly planning for the season ahead with Thiago on board. He may well move to the Middle East next summer once his contract expires, but he’s set to be a Liverpool player for one more year.

For Mo, he’s still got two years to run on the bumper contract he signed 12 months ago. If he keeps up his current level, he could well get another one at Anfield. But if not, that’s when we may see him move on. What a terribly sad day that will be.
