A Saudi Arabia sport official has said that plans are taking shape to recruit Mohamed Salah, with the Liverpool winger the latest high-profile footballer being targeted by the Arab state.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Hafez Al-Medlej claimed that the Egyptian international could be the latest superstar to make the move to Saudi Arabia with the likes of N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema and Ruben Neves all making the move east this summer.
The transfer window this year has been dominated by stories of high-profile players taking their trade to Saudi Arabia amid a huge wave of spending from the country’s Public Investment Fund, and Salah could be the next name to be attracted to the Saudi Pro League.
Signed by Liverpool in 2017 for £34m, Salah has established himself as one of the best attackers in football as well as one of the most famous names in all of sport. And because of this, Al-Medlej believes Saudi Arabia could be able to sway to the winger to make the move in the future.
The Saudi Arabian official said: “We must also start working on the signing of Mohamed Salah since he is overwhelmingly popular in the Arab world and in Europe. I think Salah still has records to break with Liverpool, so I hope that if he doesn’t come now he will in the future.”

Salah moving to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career would be baffling, to say the least. Yet in a few years time when the winger is past his peak and looking for one final move, a transfer to the Middle East could be a realistic option for the Anfield superstar.
As we know, Saudi Arabia are finding success in attracting Muslim players to the Arab world whilst also offering life-changing salaries. And for Salah in his last major move, this could be a very appealing option given the long-term effects such a transfer can have for his entire family.
