Liverpool are reportedly including Thiago Alcantara in next season’s squad plans despite rumours circulating that the midfielder could leave this summer.
According to the Athletic, the Spanish international is currently slated to play a part in Jurgen Klopp’s side next campaign, with the current expectation being that Thiago will leave Anfield in 2024 as a free-agent when the midfielder’s contract expires.
Earning a reported £225,000-a-week, Thiago is one of Liverpool’s highest-paid players. And with the Reds eager to overhaul their midfield options this summer, there has been talk amongst fans and pundits that the 32-year-old could be sold to free up room on the payroll and in the squad.
However, the general idea at Liverpool surrounding Thiago now seems to be that the midfielder will stay on Merseyside for one more year before moving on, with the Spaniard still arguably the best technical player the Reds have at their disposal.
Indeed, the former Bayern Munich man could now be a Liverpool icon had it not been for his injury problems. And with the Anfield side now looking to keep hold of the midfielder for one more year, Thiago could now have the chance to prove his real worth to supporters.
