Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga has admitted that he’s got himself a new agent, after being linked with Liverpool.

Veiga has emerged as a potential candidate for the Reds’ midfield rebuild this summer. With a release clause of around £34m in his contract, the 21-year-old looks set to be on the move following an impressive season in Vigo.

As his fee has already been set, contract talks will be absolutely key to any deal here. That’s why, in quotes from The Mirror, Veiga has admitted that he’s tried to find the best agent he possibly could.

“It’s been a bit of a mess,” said the Spaniard. “I left my [agent] and then I took some time off. I went with the one that I think is the best and I think I’ve matured a lot.”

Veiga is currently away with the Spain U21 squad and is hoping to make the final cut for the upcoming European Championships. And, when asked about his thoughts on any future move, the youngster said he’d prefer to focus on the task currently at hand.

“I’m not here to talk about my future, only my present. I want to be in the final [squad] of the Europeans,” he said. “I don’t think about my future, I want to live in the present and the national team. What I want for my future is to be in the European Championship, because there is still the final list, and then to win it. I am here in the national team, in a very nice challenge.”

Liverpool begin talks with Veiga

As Liverpool enter the race to sign Veiga, a good relationship with his agent will be absolutely crucial. There’s no need to negotiate with Celta, so this will be won and lost during contract talks.

To that end, the Reds have reportedly already begun speaking with Veiga’s representatives. They’re also claimed to have decided what kind of contract their willing to offer the Spain U21 star: a big one.

Whether or not he accepts will obviously depend on what kind of idea Veiga has about his future.

Should he choose Liverpool, the Reds will be getting a very promising player indeed. Having broken into the Celta team a couple of seasons ago, he established himself as a nailed-on starter during 2022/23.

11 goals and four assists from a midfield position is very impressive indeed. It’s no wonder Veiga has a clutch of top teams hot on his trail.

As his switch in agency would suggest, he’s now ready to make that jump in quality.

Liverpool will hope that the lure of becoming a key part of their midfield rebuild will be enough to convince Veiga to continue his development at Anfield. This race doesn’t feel close to being run, though. Let’s see what player and agent decide.
