Liverpool now in talks with agent of ‘very interesting’ £34m player

Liverpool have entered talks with the agents of Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga ahead of a potential move.

Veiga has been one of the names most heavily-linked with a move to Anfield over recent weeks. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, there’s good reason for that. Liverpool like him, they like him a lot.

“Gabri Veiga from Celta Vigo is one of the players Liverpool are monitoring,” the transfer expert told YouTube channel ‘That’s Football.’ “Really appreciated by many Premier League clubs. There is an open race, but this is a very interesting player with a €40m [£34m] release clause included into his contract, he’s one to watch.”

However, it doesn’t sound like the Reds have made any decisions just set. According to Romano, talks are continuing with other targets Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram, as well as Veiga.

“I would keep it open, I think Liverpool will go step-by-step,” said the journalist. “This was the decision when they decided to leave the race for Jude Bellingham in April, they decided to focus on [Alexis] Mac Allister, then the next one with different kind of skills. So now conversations continue with agent of Kone, Thuram, Gabri Veiga and we will see what kind of decision they will make in the next weeks.”

Liverpool weighing up Veiga move

If we were betting people, we’d wager that one of Kone, Thuram or Veiga will be Liverpool’s next arrival.

On the face of things, the Celta man would actually be the most straight-forward for the Reds to complete. The presence of that very reasonable release clause means that they know exactly how much they’d have to pay to sign him.

They’ve also reportedly already made the young Spaniard a big contract offer, or are ready to, so there should be no issues there.

Kone and Thuram meanwhile look a little more tricky, for different reasons. While the former appears to be available for the right price, it’s now reportedly ‘unlikely’ that he’ll end up at Anfield.

Thuram on the other hand is said to be not for sale in his club’s eyes. Although you’d imagine that will change with the right offer, the suggestion is that the 22-year-old would cost a fair bit more than the £34m needed to sign Veiga.

Still, it’s positive that Liverpool are continuing talks with the agents of all three.

For a big portion of the fan base, the Reds could actually do with signing four midfielders this summer. As a result, plenty wouldn’t be averse to Liverpool bringing in each one of this trio. We don’t think that’ll happen though. But let’s see if things go any further with Veiga or the others over the next few days.
