Jordan Henderson has raved about what he’s seen from reported Liverpool target Levi Colwill in England training this week.
Colwill was called up to the senior Three Lions’ squad for the very first time following an excellent season on-loan at Brighton. His impressive displays on the South Coast have led to claims that the Seagulls are trying to sign him permanently from Chelsea.
But Brighton reportedly aren’t the only side in the mix for the 20-year-old. Liverpool have also been relatively consistently linked with him. Seen through that prism, Henderson’s interview with TalkSPORT yesterday may be of extra interest to Reds fans.

Asked about what he’s seen from Colwill so far, Henderson said he’d been impressed.
“Really good. We have seen him a bit for Brighton this season and he’s played so well and he’s come in here and settled in straight away,” said the Reds captain. “You can see he’s a very good player, very young but he’s come and handled himself really well in training and seems like a really nice lad as well. So he’s been a big plus coming into the squad.”
Chelsea standing firm on Colwill
As things stand, it would be a surprise if Liverpool managed to do a deal for Colwill. Not only are Brighton seemingly the player’s clear preference, they’ve also already been submitting bids to Chelsea. Unsuccessfully though, it’s worth adding.
Further to that, it’s quite clear that the Blues have no intention of losing Colwill on a permanent basis.
He made the step up at Brighton after a very good year on-loan in the Championship with Huddersfield Town. The youngster now looks poised to make the next jump and become a starter at Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, the football world knows full well that Chelsea are in a bit of a pickle, FFP-wise. After their lavish spending of the last year, they’re going to have to move some players on this summer.
So, as much as they might not want to let Colwill go, there surely comes a point where selling him becomes good business.
To that end, Brighton are said to be ready to offer as much as £40m to sign their loan star permanently. A £30m bid has already been knocked back by Chelsea. With the sword dangling over them though, perhaps the breaking point is getting nearer.
From Liverpool’s point of view, it does seem unlikely that they’d go as high as that for a defender this summer. With midfield still the priority, that needs to be boxed off first. As of yet, it hasn’t been. Henderson is clearly impressed with Colwill though, but then again, he could hardly have been more gushing in his praise of Jude Bellingham. Look how that one turned out.
