Chelsea won't allow Liverpool target to leave unless he forces move

Chelsea will reportedly not allow Levi Colwill to leave the club this summer unless the defender forces a move, with Liverpool linked with the 20-year-old defender.

According to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, the Blues are intent on keeping hold of the England youth international, with Chelsea having no plans to sell or loan out Colwill after an incredible year with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The on-loan Seagulls defender has been a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s side making it to the UEFA Europa League and qualifying for Europe for the first time in the club’s history, and as a result, Colwill’s stock has exploded, with the likes of Liverpool now interested in the defender.

With Colwill a ball-playing left-footed centre-back, there is a chance that the youngster could feature for Chelsea next season under Mauricio Pochettino. However, interest from the likes of Liverpool could be tempting for the defender, where game time might be more readily available.

Indeed, the defender forcing a move isn’t the craziest prediction for this summer, and with Chelsea set to spend big again in the market, Liverpool could find themselves in a good position to land Colwill if the youngster opts to leave west London by his own accord.

Lauded as ‘fantastic’ by former Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien, Colwill is firmly on the path to becoming one of the best youngsters in football, and whilst there could be a chance to feature for Chelsea next season, a move to Liverpool could be even better for the defender.

As we know, Liverpool are in the market for a central defender and one who is more comfortable out on the left, and in Colwill, the Chelsea talent could be perfect for Jurgen Klopp, who in tow might be the perfect coach to take the 20-year-old to the next level.
