The cousin of Alexis Mac Allister has admitted that the Brighton midfielder is ‘close’ to joining Liverpool.
Having just become the captain of Malaysian side Perak FC, Luciano Guaycochea sat down for a chat with Stadium Astro. During the interview, the topic of his cousin’s imminent move to Liverpool was brought up.
“The next time you contact Mac Allister, give him a call or text, can you tell him please join Liverpool, no other teams, Liverpool,” joked the interviewer.

“Well I cannot say where he’s going to play,” laughed Guaycochea. “But I think everyone knows he’s close to Liverpool. Big team. But everywhere he goes I hope he can play good.”
“So, he told you he’s going to Liverpool?” pushed the reporter. Having backed himself into a corner, a slightly non-plussed looking Guaycochea opted for a non-committal shrug and a smile in response.
The waiting may well soon be over, Reds!
Mac Allister close to sealing Liverpool move
By now, Mac Allister’s cousin is confirming what is merely common knowledge. It’s been reported for the past six weeks or so that the 24-year-old is Liverpool’s top transfer target. For a fee of around £65m, he’s there’s.
Over the last couple of weeks, those reports have become steadily more urgent. The latest appears to be that the Reds hope to get everything sorted by some time next week.
Still, it’s great to hear it from a source so close to the player.

Mac Allister himself has also recently been asked directly about the possibility of joining Jurgen Klopp’s squad. However, perhaps a little more media trained than his cousin, the Brighton man dealt the question a pretty straight bat.
This could be taken a couple of different ways. Firstly, it could merely be that Mac Allister is being respectful to his current club while still employed by them. Secondly, maybe he’s not quite as close to Liverpool as he appears to be, and is waiting for interest from other clubs.
With Liverpool out of next season’s Champions League, that second scenario will remain a worry for Reds fans until the deal is done.
Thankfully, as Guaycochea looks to have confirmed, we may not have to worry for too much longer.
