Alexis Mac Allister has admitted that he’s aware of interest from Liverpool over a potential summer transfer.
The 24-year-old looks set to be Liverpool’s first signing of the summer window, seemingly on the verge of completing a move from Brighton. Before then though, Mac Allister is currently on holiday in Miami, where he’s just conducted an interview with Argentine outlet Infobae.
During the interview, the Brighton man was asked directly about the possibility of joining Liverpool and playing for Jurgen Klopp.
“You are one step away from one of the most important clubs in the world, Liverpool, and being coached by one of the best coaches, Jurgen Klopp, what goes through your mind?” he’s asked.
“I am very calm because I also have the possibility of being in a club like Brighton that accompanied me at all times and in which I enjoy being very much,” Mac Allister responded. “If I do not have to leave the club I will continue very happy there, but I am aware that there will be possibilities and if a good offer arrives for the club and for me we will evaluate it.”
Mac Allister also confirmed that should he leave Brighton, he’ll be looking to stay in the Premier League.
“I have no doubt that today is the best league to play in and that is why I am aware that I would like my next club to be in the Premier League,” he said. “I really enjoy being there and the truth is that people have always treated me 10 [out of 10] in the country and that for me is very important.”
Mac Allister stays respectful of Brighton
You have to hand it to Mac Allister, the £70m-rated midfielder is remaining incredibly professional throughout this saga. Although the question is put to him directly about Liverpool, he doesn’t mention the Reds in response. That comes off as very respectful towards Brighton.
Some may take a different view of that, of course. With the transfer still not quite over the line, there remains some paranoia that another team could still swoop in.
By not mentioning Liverpool by name, is Mac Allister leaving the door open to the likes of Manchester City? Only time will tell on that.
From our point of view, we think the World Cup winner is simply respecting the club he currently plays for. Clearly, the interviewer has felt emboldened enough to ask about Liverpool specifically, so you have to assume some off-the-record chat has gone on, too.
Until Mac Allister has been announced as a fully-fledged Reds player though, some doubts will persist. Hopefully they prove to be unfounded.
It’s all looking good, then. But in the meantime, Liverpool fans will simply have to wait and make do with these little teasers until there’s something a little more concrete.
