Reported Liverpool transfer target Matheus Nunes has admitted that he hasn’t played well this season at Wolves.
Nunes has been very heavily linked with the Reds despite having an underwhelming campaign at Molineux. And speaking to wolves.co.uk, the 24-year-old has vowed to improve next year.
“To be honest, I haven’t shown anything yet. I’m going to be completely sincerely honest with you,” Nunes said. “It doesn’t matter who speaks or who doesn’t speak, I try not to listen to that because there are a lot of people who talk bad things about you, but I know that people who really know me, they know that I haven’t done anything yet.

“I want to show what I’m working on, and I’m pretty sure next season they are going to see the best of me. There is more to come from me – for sure.”
If reports are be to trusted, there’s still every chance that Nunes will be showing his best self – or attempting to – as a Liverpool player next year. Don’t rule this one out just yet.
Liverpool need to see more from Nunes
There has been a lot of talk about Nunes since around the turn of the year. Of course, he was also well-linked with a move to Liverpool during the last summer transfer window. But he joined Wolves instead.
Despite not really getting going this season though, the Reds would still appear to be interested in him.
That has disappointed some fans, who – quite fairly – haven’t seen enough from Nunes to suggest that he’d improve Liverpool.

However, you do have to tip your hat to him for being honest enough in his assessment of his displays. Returning to his interview today, the Portugal international admitted that he’d found the going easier since Julen Lopetegui’s arrival in November.
“I feel happier now, I do. I think everybody can see that I am so much happier now,” said the midfielder. “I go to the games with a different feeling and it’s been good. Like I said, since the gaffer arrived, everything has changed for me.
“I didn’t play as I wanted to consistently every game, but that happens. Even at Sporting, that would happen for me as well, but me and the team has everything to do much better for next season.”
If he is to move to Liverpool, then he’ll have to find some of that consistency on a more regular basis.
Still, it’s good to hear a footballer hold himself accountable for his own performance. There’s clearly a lot to like about Nunes’ mentality. As a result, it’s no wonder Liverpool are interested, but they need to start seeing something more on the pitch. If not, he’s likely to miss his chance of an Anfield career.
